
The Rev. Daun E. McKee, Ph.D.
The Rev. Daun E. McKee, Ph.D., is Chief Executive Officer and President of Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, a role he has held since Diakon's creation in January 2000. In that position, he has overseen the agency's growth and successful efforts to meet today's health-care challenges. McKee will retire the end of 2009; the boards of directors of Diakon and Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries have selected Mark T. Pile as president/CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2010.
At the time of Diakon's founding, Dr. McKee was President of Lutheran Services Northeast, one of the two agencies that created the new organization. In that role since 1995, he focused on promoting growth for the organization, overseeing the 1997 affiliation of The Lutheran Home at Topton with Lutheran Welfare Service of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Hazleton, which created LSN.
Between 1977 and 1995. Dr. McKee served as President/CEO of Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, Inc., a Hollidaysburg-based Lutheran social ministry organization. He also has served as a parish pastor, hospital group counselor, and a research associate at Penn State's Institute for Research on Human Resources.
Dr. McKee is a 1964 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, from which he received his bachelor's degree. He received his Master of Divinity degree from The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg and earned his Doctorate in Speech Communication from Penn State University. He has served in numerous roles, including that of president, with the Pennsylvania Association of Non-Profit Homes For The Aging and the Pennsylvania Lutheran Network. A former member of the House of Delegates of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, Dr. McKee has written a number of papers, several of which focus on communication with older persons and those with special needs.
