Everyone wants to be independent. Some older persons and those with physical challenges, however, may be unable to cope with the demands of independent living.

Fortunately, Diakon Adult Day Services at Mountain Glade-offered in Oakland and Garrett County, Md. -can help.

Diakon Adult Day Services provides daytime assistance and care, allowing older persons or those with disabilities to remain in their community while maintaining their independence and dignity. The program offers an alternative to placement in a long-term nursing care center, at the same time providing respite for those giving care at home.


  • Medication assistance and monitoring
  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapy
  • Monitoring of health status
  • Counseling
  • Scheduled transportation to and from the center, as well as to such appointments as dental and medical
  • Assistance with personal grooming
  • Assistance with bathing

In addition, Diakon Adult Day Services offers participants interaction with others who have similar interests and experiences. The centers provide a full roster of exciting events and activities, including crafts, shopping trips, games, recreational excursions, and learning sessions. Chaplaincy services also are part of center life. The program is funded by private pay, Medical Assistance, and grant funds for those who are income-eligible.
