SCHOOL BEREAVEMENT WORKSHOPS

School-based bereavement workshops can be provided at the request of school faculty or administrators. Program sessions are tailored to participants’ ages and use techniques of arts, crafts, games, and discussions as practical strategies for healing. Emergency sessions are also available to help children deal with crises, such as accidents or suicides.

Faculty in-service workshops
The Diakon Children’s Bereavement Program offers in-service workshops for school faculty members. When teachers and advisors are able themselves to assist children facing grief, they stand at the brink of a profound, teachable moment. The program empowers educators to take the journey with children through these most difficult experiences with greater confidence, competence, and compassion.

The program is available to provide education, consultation, resources, and referral assistance to school-system professionals.

Community workshops
Sometimes adults other than parents or teachers are those that recognize children having a difficult time dealing with a loss. Bereavement workshops and presentations can be provided to community organizations, church groups, civic groups, or anyone interested in children’s bereavement. Educational materials and resource information also can be provided upon request.
