The Frey Village Auxiliary is a long-standing organization that predates even Frey Village, having grown out of the volunteer group that supported the three small senior-living group homes in Camp Hill, Harrisburg, and Millersburg operated by Lutheran Social Services. The LSS history is carried on today by Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries.
Led by President Dana Sanchez, auxiliary members provide funding and a range of activities and events upon which Frey Village depends.
Annually, the auxiliary enriches the lives of residents through its support of ice-cream socials, variety programs, resident birthday parties, and a Valentine’s Day dinner.
Auxiliary volunteers support a long list of quality programs including hymn sings, exercise activities, resident visitation, crafts, tea time, bus trips, altar flowers, sewing, gardening, Bingo, transportation, and special projects to meet resident needs.
Honored to continue the traditions of providing a day for local communities to come together and delight in the simple blessings of fresh produce, homemade treats, and handcrafted items, auxiliary members spend countless hours supporting Frey Village through the annual Strawberry Festival. In years in which budgets are tight, the festival’s “white elephant” sale provides an inexpensive place to pick up needed items. The festival’s large selection of used books is sure to please readers of all ages. And local vendors and artists offer a variety of unique gifts.
The auxiliary annually hosts the village Strawberry Festival, held the first Saturday in June.
Many hands make for light work and make a real difference! Volunteers often find that supporting an organization that carries on time-honored traditions, while also touching the lives of people, is very fulfilling.
