A rewarding, fulfilling lifestyle
For those able to live independently or who need a little assistance
to remain independent, Frostburg Heights offers rental-subsidized
apartments as well as a congregate-housing program. Frostburg Heights offers an engaging
environment designed to help you make the most of life.
An unparalleled location
Frostburg Heights sits amid western Maryland’s rolling mountains,
overlooking the charming town that serves as home to Frostburg State University. Conveniently
located near Interstate-68 and Rts. 220 and 36, Frostburg Heights
provides convenient access to West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Locations
such as Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., are within only
a two-hour drive.
At the same time, nearby cultural and educational opportunities abound,
with both Frostburg State University and Allegany College, located
in Cumberland, Md., offering diversified programs for all to enjoy. The
region also boasts the Frostburg Theater Cultural Center, fine dining,
and hotel accommodations.
Local recreational offerings include Rocky
Gap State Park, East Cumberland; Deep Creek Lake Four Seasons Resort,
Garrett County; and Youghiogheny River white-water rafting, to name
just a few.
A site steeped in history
Allegany County also has historical significance. The Chesapeake and
Ohio Canal National Historical Park is located in Cumberland, the
site of the westernmost portion of the canal.
Frostburg also hosts
a portion of the National Road, approved by Congress in the early
1800s. Over time, the National Road took a back seat to the railroad
and, today, Frostburg is known for its historic rail station. Many
architecturally significant homes can be viewed in Frostburg as well.
More intensive health care is readily available, with the Western
Maryland Health System’s Sacred Heart and Memorial hospitals both
located in nearby Cumberland, Md.
A range of engaging activities
Frostburg Heights hosts diverse resident activities that promote independence
and nurture physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Ranging from
holiday celebrations, summer cookouts, multi-denominational religious
programs, musical events, and exercise classes, activities are tailored
to residents’ interests.
In addition, the community features College
of Knowledge events—educational how-to programs on such topics as
fishing, candy-making, and crafts. Frostburg Heights also features
a variety of social events designed around an active lifestyle.
Local communities are an integral part of Frostburg Heights. Together,
community and staff work to offer support, suggestions, and recommendations
that ultimately add to the quality of resident life.
A tradition of service
Celebrating 30 years of service in 2009, Frostburg
Heights was constructed to meet the needs of the
area’s older population. The apartment complex was constructed by Tressler Lutheran Services—now Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries—as part of Frostburg Village of Allegany County, which includes a nursing care center and assisted living community. That part of the village is now operated by another health-care provider.
