Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers–working hard to lend a hand, give a hug, or silently comfort families in your community.

Making our program unique, Diakon Hospice Saint John volunteers are crucial to our service. Taking time to care, Diakon Hospice Saint John volunteers make a difference not only to our program, but also to patients and their families throughout our service regions. We value every volunteer for his or her dedicated service.

Following completion of hospice training recognized by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), volunteers may assist with the following:

• Visit with a patient for brief periods of time
• Read to a patient
• Help with patient’s household chores (grocery shopping, cooking a meal, etc.)
• Help transport patient to medical appointments
• Give respite to caregivers
• Assist with fund-raising activities and office or clerical support
