About Kathryn's Kloset
Located in a 53,000-square-foot warehouse in West Baltimore, Diakon Kathryn's Kloset stores and distributes corporate donations of new and unused products to non-profit organizations, which in turn distribute the goods, free of charge, to people in need.
Diakon Kathryn's Kloset accepts dry goods, non-perishable food items, computers, toiletries, cleaning and school supplies, office equipment, and much more from corporations that would otherwise, sometimes at significant expense, dispose of the items or warehouse them themselves. Diakon Kathryn's Kloset serves as a way station for goods destined to help people in need.
The program is the brainchild of a retired employee of Unilever—now Sun Products—who developed the concept while still working for Unilever; Sun Products continues to provide significant product support to Diakon Kathryn's Kloset.
In 2008, the program became a service of Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, which expanded the operation and spends hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to support this unique ministry that is making a difference in up to one million lives each year.
