Therapy dog poses for calendar

Daisy is a three-year-old lab/golden retriever that has stolen the hearts of residents and staff members of The Lutheran Home at Topton, a Diakon Senior Living Community.

They have even made this therapy dog a star.

The Lutheran Home at Topton’s Community Life Department has developed a calendar featuring Daisy in different monthly poses. The proceeds will be used to meet all of Daisy’s needs including veterinary care, food, toys, treats, and anything else to keep the canine happy.

Daisy’s duties as a therapy dog at The Lutheran Home at Topton include visiting residents on campus and spreading love, happiness, and warmth.

“The affection that Daisy gives to the residents and that they give to her is amazing. They just love her and she’s so good with them. She offers them companionship and love without expecting anything back. She’s a very laid back dog and very pleasant. The residents, as well as the staff, think of Daisy as their own pet. According to studies, having an animal to pet and love promotes longevity and lowers blood pressure and we’re hoping that is the case,” says Sue Fogel, activity coordinator.

Daisy, who has been at The Lutheran Home at Topton for about a year and a half, works two full days and two half days each week. She lives with Jeanette Ernst, activity assistant.

“Between the parking lot and our [activities] department Daisy has special people that she visits to get treats. In the morning Daisy goes to our assisted living and dementia unit where she visits with residents and sometimes in the afternoon, Daisy will peek in at the exercise classes. She also makes her appearance at special campus events, such as Anniversary Day,” Fogel says.

Daisy calendars are available by calling The Lutheran Home at Topton’s Community Life Department at (610) 682-1400.
