Diakon Volunteer Home Care provides non-medical assistance
through caring volunteers from local communities and congregations.
Volunteers are trained and supported by program staff, but the volunteers’
special touch is the reason this outreach ministry is so successful.
Diakon Volunteer Home Care services include companionship through visiting, letter writing,
and telephone reassurance; assistance with grocery shopping, meal preparation, household and outdoor chores, and minor home repairs; transportation to medical appointments; and assistance with referrals to additional local resources.
Diakon Volunteer Home Care provides service on a short-term or intermittent
basis and works in complement with other human services and assistance
provided by family members or friends. Because services are offered
at no cost to the individual, Diakon Volunteer Home Care relies on the generosity
of donors to make its ministry possible.
This office of Diakon Volunteer Home Care serves the Greater Berks region including all of Berks County and the bordering areas of Lehigh, Montgomery, and Chester counties. The Berks program is funded, in part, under a contract with money allocated by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and the Berks County Commissioners, through the Berks County Office of Aging.
