Through Diakon Volunteer Home Care, volunteers from communities
and congregations of many faiths come together to make a difference—to
lend a helping hand in times of need. Volunteers with our program
receive training and orientation, excess liability insurance, and
may be eligible for mileage reimbursement.
Services are provided
on a short-term, temporary, or intermittent basis, so volunteers
are able to give of their time as they are able. Volunteer help
is non-professional, so volunteers do not provide home health-related
tasks, such as feeding, dressing, lifting, or giving medications.
Rather, volunteers with
Diakon Volunteer Home Care provide companionship to someone who is alone,
visit when family members are away, assist with errands or grocery
shopping, do light household or outdoor chores, assist with minor
home repairs, provide transportation to medical and related appointments,
or simply telephone a person to provide reassurance.
Our services are very
flexible so you can volunteer even if you work or go to school full-time.
And, even if you cannot volunteer yourself, you can help spread
the word about Diakon Volunteer Home Care by letting friends and
neighbors know that help is there for them when needed! For more
information about volunteering, return to our main
page and click any of the regional links for contact information.
