Diakon Community Services for Seniors

Health & Wellness

Since 1996, Diakon’s Health & Wellness Program—formerly known as PrimeTime Health—has been helping to improve the health of people 60 years of age and older through educational programs, fitness classes, walking clubs, and much more. Fun, fitness, and fellowship is our motto here in Schuylkill County!

Based on the idea that knowledge is power, the Health & Wellness Program offers exercise programs for people of every ability, educational guest speakers, and regularly scheduled wellness checks at the Diakon-sponsored senior community centers in Tremont, Pottsville, Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, and Schuylkill Haven.

In addition, we host special programs throughout the year at various community locations.

  • Healthy Steps, designed by the University of California at Berkley for the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and presented by certified instructors, is designed to reduce your risk of falling through a personal risk assessment, home safety checklist, and exercise for strength and balance.
  • Healthy Steps in Motion, taught by certified instructors, is a new fitness program that will build body strength, increase flexibility, and improve balance.
  • Living a Healthy Life, designed by Stanford University and presented by certified instructors, works with people with chronic conditions, their families, and caregivers to reduce days in the hospital and increase those of “feeling good” through small lifestyle changes and positive self-management techniques.
  • Healthy Eating for Successful Living, our newest program addition, was designed by Harvard University to encourage change in eating habits through education, practical skills and teamwork.

Though our Health & Wellness Program, we want you to have fun, get active—and get and stay healthy!
