Frey Village is planning the addition of 56 senior living apartments.
While eventual construction is contingent on construction and zoning approvals and reaching presales goal, staff of the Diakon Lutheran senior living community, 1020 N. Union St., remain confident the project will move forward.
"Based on current demand, we are excited about next steps in completing this project," says Amy Young, village executive director. "Beyond the additional apartments, the project will create a new look for the front of the village and provide expanded amenities for both new and current residents."
The project, estimated at $20 million, will add two apartment wings to the right and left of the current entrance, as well as a new wellness center, library, parlor, office space, and dining accommodations including a bistro for senior living residents. These new amenities will be located adjacent to the current reception/entrance area.
The new apartments will be available in four models—two styles each of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units—ranging in size from approximately 740 to 1,200 square feet. If the schedule of presales goals is met, construction should begin by June 2012, taking an estimated 15 months to complete.
Frey Village currently has 52 apartments, 35 personal care accommodations, and 136 skilled nursing beds, including a dedicated unit for those with Alzheimer’s disease and similar memory-related illnesses.
