A tradition of service . . .

Celebrating more than 25 years of service to the community, Frostburg Heights was constructed in the late 1970s to meet the needs of the area's older population. In response to the community's request for a retirement village, a representative from Tressler Lutheran Services began meeting in 1974 with Allegany County Commissioners, members of the local ministerium, aging specialists, and others to develop a plan to construct a nursing care facility and a residential-living mid-rise apartment building.

Tressler-now part of Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries-agreed to build and operate the community, while the county commissioners offered support. Donating 25 acres of land on a site east of Frostburg as well as making monetary contributions, the commissioners helped the dream of a retirement village become a reality.

The nursing care center opened in 1978, with the mid-rise building, known as Frostburg Heights, beginning operations a year later. Assisted living accommodations were added in 1999. In the spring of 2005, the nursing care center and assisted living accommodations were sold to Tandem Health Care, Inc., as part of Diakon’s refocusing of its senior living services to concentrate on continuum-of-care communities as well as several rental-assistance programs such as Frostburg Heights, which remains an integral part of Diakon
’s ministry.
