Senior living at its finest
At Diakon Lutheran Senior Living – Hagerstown, we want you to live retirement years to their fullest. Whether you want
to embrace your independence or experience the peace of mind our services can provide, we will work to make sure your
experience is engaging and rewarding.
Located in historic Hagerstown, Maryland, crossroads of the Civil War, Diakon Senior Living offers gracious
accommodations and services on two campuses: Ravenwood and Robinwood. Our comprehensive services include senior living
accommodations, assisted living services, memory-enhancement assisted living, and nursing and rehabilitative care.
Though initially developed as separate senior living communities, the two sites were combined in the early 2000s to
provide more comprehensive and coordinated services.
The Ravenwood campus . . .
Initially called and still known locally as Ravenwood Lutheran Village, this tastefully landscaped location on Luther
Drive includes senior living accommodations, an assisted living community, and a nursing and rehabilitative care center.
The Robinwood campus . . .
Situated on 29 rolling acres directly across from the Robinwood Medical Center, this site, originally known as The
Village at Robinwood, includes 70 gracious studio and one-bedroom apartment-style assisted living suites. In addition,
the wonderfully designed, two-story Assisted Living Community offers memory-enhancement care for persons with Alzheimer’s
diseases and similar illnesses.
The campus also includes senior living accommodations, which will become available upon state licensure of Diakon
Senior Living – Hagerstown as a single Continuing Care Retirement Community.
It’s all about the lifestyle
Looking to stay fit? Try our state-of-the-art Community Center. The Community Center consists of a heated indoor
swimming pool, fitness center, country store, The Village Cafe, and more.
Our village offers numerous social opportunities to residents. We host special events as well as organize cultural
and recreational programming. From participating on our Cottagers or Residents council, or volunteering at local events,
our residents enjoy a multitude of social opportunities.
And Hagerstown offers a wonderful blend of town-and-country living. Area attractions include a 10-acre natural lake,
scenic park, five area golf courses, a Class A baseball team, and a world-class performing arts community. A variety
of social and recreational opportunities exist on the senior living campuses as well, including cultural, educational,
and fitness programs.
Major interstates can easily be accessed from both sites, meaning residents can enjoy trips to Washington, D.C.,
Baltimore, and Harrisburg. Our locations easily allow for additional cultural and recreational experiences beyond
those in Hagerstown.
Offering the peace of mind you desire
You can count on us no matter what level of care you may need. If you desire to live independently, our beautiful
senior living homes offer the lifestyle you deserve. Perhaps you need assistance with daily tasks, but want to maintain
your independence—then our Assisted Living communities Center may be for you. In addition, we offer nursing and
rehabilitative services at our Nursing Care Center where you will enjoy individualized care in a comfortable home-like
setting.
And our Ravenwood campus even includes an adult day services center, which allows individuals to continue to live
in their own homes, or with family members during the evenings and weekends, while our weekday care provides respite
for caregivers along with daily activities, health care, and noon meal.
Continuing a tradition of care
In 1976, members of Lutheran congregations in Washington County recognized a need for senior housing in Hagerstown. To satisfy that need, the congregations raised funds to enable the purchase of 29 acres in the southeastern
part of the city, working with Tressler Lutheran Services—now Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries—to begin development of a
nursing care center.
But Tressler didn’t end the project there. After the nursing care center opened in 1978, senior living homes were
completed in 1979; additional cottage-style homes were added in 1981 and 1996. During the last phase of development, an assisted
living community was constructed, opening in 1992.
Tressler and then Diakon later began working with Washington County Health System to build The Village at Robinwood;
Diakon then assumed sole responsibility for the community.
