Dealing with a loved one's death is difficult for everybody, but it can be especially troubling for children and adolescents. When faced with an untimely death of a loved one, young people often have a myriad of emotions that can be overwhelming and confusing. To help during these often perplexing times, Diakon Hospice Saint John offers programs geared to help children and adolescents understand the grieving process.

  • Camp Evergreen
A day-long bereavement program for children and teens, Camp Evergreen allows participants to express their feelings through activities, games, and crafts. The activities also stimulate cherished memories that are used to promote healing and growth.

  • Monthly Support Groups
Monthly support groups provide a forum for young people to interact and share their feelings and experiences with others, which is beneficial to the healing process.

  • Individual and Family Counseling
Available the first year after a patient's death, this program provides one-on-one support to individuals or families who want to examine their feelings and explore positive, personal approaches to coping with their loss.

  • Informational Resources
Staff members serve as a resource for parents, schools, churches, and community organizations on a range of bereavement and end-of-life topics.
