Before receiving care from Diakon Hospice Saint John, a referred patient must receive approval from his
or her attending physician. Following referral approval, a number of ways to cover the costs of
Hospice Saint John's services will be explored.
The program is certified as a Medicare hospice provider. For Medicare beneficiaries who elect
the hospice benefit, most services, including diagnosis-related medications, are covered for
terminally ill patients. Many insurance companies also provide hospice benefits. Diakon Hospice Saint
John patients who do not have insurance coverage may pay for services directly.
As part of its mission, Diakon Hospice Saint John, when possible, makes financial assistance for subsidized care
available to patients who do not have, or who have exhausted, insurance or other resources. After
patients have been admitted to our program, they will not be discharged for lack of financial resources.
Donors throughout the community help to make such care possible.
