About Us

Everyone wants a secure, comfortable retirement, regardless of income. That’s precisely what the modern, rent-subsidized apartments at Luther Meadows and Heilman House offer.

Affordable housing

If you think a care-free retirement has to be expensive, think again! As part of its comprehensive senior-living program, The Lutheran Home at Topton serves as the site of Luther Meadows and Heilman House, two apartment complexes that provide rental subsidies based on income.

Overlooking a picturesque pond and lush woods, the Luther Meadows and Heilman House apartments provide the “good life” to adults age 62 and older and physically challenged persons over the age of 18. Each four-story complex offers 50 spacious one-bedroom apartments with full kitchen, private bath, air conditioning, wall-to-wall carpeting, large closets, and cable-television access.

Convenience and security

The advantages of living as part of a larger senior living community are readily apparent at Luther Meadows and Heilman House. Residents appreciate the convenience of on-campus postal service and community library. In addition, The Lutheran Home at Topton offers such services as hair care and transportation, available for a small fee. The campus also maintains a health care and rehabilitation center.

All building entrances are locked, with residents using a front-door card-access system. Visitors are regulated by residents via a phone-access system. The buildings also include smoke alarms, emergency-lighting systems, central fire/heat detectors, a sprinkler system, handrails in the hallways, and grab bars in the bathrooms. The grounds, including parking areas, are well lighted and well kept.

Every floor of Luther Meadows and Heilman House boasts spacious lounges, with wonderful views of the rolling Berks County countryside. These and other gathering areas provide the perfect spot to read a book, work on a puzzle, or chat with friends. For residents’ convenience, each building features a first-floor laundry room equipped with coin-operated washers and dryers.

Outside, residents can enjoy a wooded setting and patio that serves as the perfect environment for summer picnics or fall entertaining.

Activities galore!

Meeting friends comes naturally at Luther Meadows and Heilman House. Parties and social activities are held in the community rooms in each building. Even more recreational and educational opportunities are available, some for a small fee, within other areas of The Lutheran Home at Topton community, including day trips, craft classes, Bible studies, worship services, musical performances, guest speakers, and more.
