Long-Term Foster Care (LTFC) for Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URMs)
URMs arrive to our program under the age of 18 and resettle alone in the United States, without a parent, relative or other adult to care for them. Youth are typically ages 14 to 17, are about 75% male and come from 24 countries around the world.
The Unaccompanied Refugee Minors Program of Diakon Adoption & Foster Care is the only program in Pennsylvania that provides foster care for refugee and migrating youth.
During their time in care, unaccompanied children receive clinical, case management, education and legal immigration support services. As the majority of children and youth in this program receive their adjustment of status to lawfully reside in the U.S., the focus of program services is on life skills building and acclimation into their new communities.
Each child has a different story, but the love and support you provide can change their lives forever!
