The Wilderness Greenhouse & Native Plant Nursery

The Diakon Wilderness Greenhouse & Native Plant Nursery is currently open for private appointments. For more information or to schedule a private appointment, please email Kim Patten or call her at (717) 960-6740.

The greenhouse will have regular hours again beginning Saturday, Sept. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon, and will be open Saturdays through the end of October.

Please note that the greenhouse will be open Sept. 16, the day of the Diakon Wilderness Center Outdoor Adventure Challenge. Parking may be a minor issue that day. In addition, the greenhouse will host a sale to benefit the conservation and education programs of the Appalachian Audubon Society from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 30.

SPECIAL OFFER ...

For a limited time, you may qualify for an 80% discount on your next conservation-landscaping project, such as a rain garden, butterfly garden, pollinator garden or simple meadow! For all homeowners and small businesses within the Conodoguinet or Yellow Breeches watersheds, the Reduce Your Stormwater program cost share can include the cost of plants, soil amendments and mulch. The application process is quick and easy. Apply now to be approved for fall planting. This is the last season this will be offered. To learn more, click here.

The Diakon Wilderness Greenhouse & Native Plant Nursery is a unique greenhouse that not only provides regional residents with perrennials native to Pennsylvania, but also serves as a vocational training site for at-risk youths—and helps to fund Diakon Youth Services programs.

The greenhouse typically offers more than 150 species of flowering plants, ferns, grasses, shrubs and trees. The greenhouse is a teaching nursery, offering students the opportunity to learn valuable skills, gain workplace experience, and deepen their understanding of the relationships in the world around them.
