If you are 55 or older, RSVP can help you volunteer efficiently and effectively!
Funded by a grant from AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP, Diakon offers RSVP volunteers work toward educating, evaluating, protecting, conserving, and revitalizing our environment in the communities that we live in, which leads to the betterment and health of people in the community and benefiting the outdoor activities within Clinton, Lycoming, Union, Snyder and Northumberland Counties. With the assistance of our partners and volunteers, we are committed to…
- Supporting and expanding the education and awareness of Environmental Stewardship in the community;
- Monitoring the health and cleanliness of our streams, rivers and bodies of water;
- Maintaining and preserving trails and camp areas in state parks and forests.
*Please note that additional volunteer opportunities in the other AmeriCorps Senior focus areas of Healthy Futures, Disaster Response, Education, Veterans & Military Families, and Economic Opportunity are available.
A heritage of service and individual opportunity
As part of AmeriCorps Seniors, RSVP is America’s largest volunteer network for people 55 and over, with more than 300,000 volunteers tackling challenging issues in communities nationwide. The AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors embody the nation’s commitment to building a culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility.
With RSVP, you choose how, when, and where you want to serve, how much time you want to give; and whether you want to share skills or develop new ones. In addition to health-related benefits, volunteering can lead to more friendships and an opportunity to give while also receiving.

RSVP volunteer commitments range from a couple of hours to an ongoing commitment. The amount of time is up to you!
Our volunteers receive pre-service orientation, training from the organization they choose to serve and supplemental insurance while volunteering. RSVP volunteers do not receive monetary incentives, but seeing the impact of your contribution to the beauty and health of our rivers and parks, will be quite an incentive in and of itself.
